Why do I need a Delaware security systems and protective services agency bond?

The Delaware State Police requires security system and alarm providers and protective services agencies to post $10,000 surety bonds.

By posting a Delaware security systems and protective services agency bond, principals (security service providers) pledge to conduct business according to the provisions of Section 1212, Chapter 12, Title 24 of the Delaware Code. If the principal fails to comply with these terms, the bond protects harmed parties from financial loss.

How to become licensed as a Delaware security system business

The following documents and information must be attached and submitted for licensure:

  1. Submit a Delaware Security Systems and Protective Services Agency application to the Superintendent of the Delaware State Police.
Each owner(s) and partner(s) must submit a background statement, including any previous license denials or felonies.
Each applicant must attach a copy of his or her ID and fingerprints recorded by local police approved by the Professional Licensing Section. The processing fee for these is $65 per person.
A list of all security agency employees must be included.
    The application must be notarized.
    The licensing fee is $25.
  2. Each applicant should provide evidence that their new license will be covered by a surety bond via the approved surety bond form.
The bond should list the State of Delaware as the obligee.
  3. Once the application has been completed and the surety bond obtained, in-state agencies must contact Gail Willoughby at (302) 672-5337 or at [email protected] for an appointment. The Professional Licensing Section will review the application and perform a background check for any misconduct and ensure that the proprietors have good intentions with the newly acquired license.
Out-of-state applicants may mail their application to P.O. Box 430, Dover, DE 19904. If using Federal Express, UPS, or any overnight service, the application can be sent to 655 South Bay Road, Suite 1B, Dover, DE 19901.
All owners, partners, or corporate officers physically working in Delaware to perform any security systems and protective service work must have an identification card issued. The ID card fee is $20.
The license will be active for two years before a required renewal.

For more information, review the Delaware Code Title 24 Chapter 12. All fees may be combined in a single payment issued to Delaware State Police.
