What Are USTOA Indemnity Bonds? 

The United States Tour Operators Association Inc. (USTOA) requires Active Members of the USTOA $1 Million Travelers Assistance Program to have a USTOA indemnity bond. The program protects USTOA consumers’ deposits and payments. 

Each Active Member must file a $1 million security in the form of a surety bond, letter of credit or U.S. treasury bill which will be held by the United States Tour Operators Association Inc. Tour Depositors Trust.

How Do USTOA Indemnity Bonds Work? 

By purchasing this bond, you enter a legal contract between three parties:

  1. Obligee: United States Tour Operator Association Inc. 
  2. Principal: You, the USTOA Active Member  
  3. Surety: The company issuing the bond

How Are Bond Claims Handled?

All Active Members’ surety bonds are posted in the United States Tour Operators Association Inc. Tour Depositors Trust. The trust reimburses consumers’ vacation investments, tour payments or deposits in the following instances:

  • Active Member bankruptcy
  • Active Member insolvency
  • Active Member cessation of business
  • Failure to refund consumer deposits within 120 days of its cancellation
