The Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire defines a "public adjuster" as an individual who "works on behalf of insured individuals and whose licensure is limited to property and casualty."

Georgia public adjuster license applicants must meet several Georgia Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook requirements such as completing required coursework, filing a surety bond, and paying all applicable fees. You must be at least 18 years old and be a resident of Georgia (or have a business address in Georgia) to apply.

How to get a Georgia Public Adjuster License

How do I get a public adjuster license in Georgia?

Step 1: Complete a 40 hour pre-licensing course.

Before taking your Georgia public adjuster exam you must complete a 40 hour property and casualty course approved by the Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire. You can register for your Georgia Insurance Department course online through Pearson VUE, which requires a $199 fee. You must pass your Georgia public adjuster exam within 12 months of completing your course.

Step 2: Pass the Georgia Public Adjuster Examination.

The Georgia Public Adjuster Exam is a 2 hour, 100 question examination. You can register for your Georgia Insurance Department exam online through PearsonVUE, which requires a $63 exam fee payable by credit card, debit card, voucher or electronic check. You can take your exam in-person or online and must register at least 24 hours in advance.

If you're taking your exam in person, you must bring 2 forms of ID. Your primary identification must be government-issued and contain your photo and signature. The following forms of identification fulfill the state's primary ID requirements.

  • current valid and signed passport
  • current valid and signed government-issued photo diver's license (full or provisional)
  • employee ID, work badge, military ID, or school ID

Your secondary identification must contain your signature. The following forms of identification fulfill the state's secondary ID requirements.

  • credit or debit card
  • bank cards
  • additional acceptable form of primary identification

Step 3. Get your fingerprints electronically documented.

You must pass a background check by getting your fingerprints electronically documented using the Georgia Applicant Processing Service. When registering, you must choose the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, where you'll be prompted to pay the fingerprinting fee and upload your personal information.

Step 4. Complete a Citizenship Affidavit form.

If you're a first-time applicant, you must complete a Citizenship Affidavit form verifying you can work in the United States. Print, sign, and complete a physical copy of the form, which must be notarized and submitted with your online license application. You'll need to pay a Citizenship Affidavit form filing fee.

Step 5: Purchase your Georgia public adjuster surety bond.

You must file a $5,000 Georgia public adjuster surety bond as part of the state's licensing process. This bond requires you to comply with the rules and regulations listed in Georgia public adjuster code. If you fail to comply with your bond's terms, your surety company will pay valid claims filed against your bond up to its $5,000 amount.

You can buy your Georgia public adjuster bond online 24/7 for just $100 with instant emailed surety bond delivery.

Step 5: Apply for your license and pay the required fee.
